| I do our troop website and really like the Plans style calendar, compared to what I've been doing. I'm just learning HTML and am a real novice. Frontpage has been my way of dealing with the web. What's the best way to load this using Frontpage? Should I open "plans" in Frontpage or upload the program another means, or what? Maybe I'm out of my league wanting to use this on my site right now. |

Many folks accustomed to Frontpage have installed Plans. The calendar will work for you if your server supports perl cgi scripts.
You'll have to put Frontpage aside for the initial installation (although you can use it later to edit the calendar's template file).
You'll need to use ftp to upload the files, which means you'll need an ftp client. SmartFTP (www.smartftp.com) is a good one. This will let you easily move files from your PC to your website account.
Before moving any files, you'll need to create a new directory in your account (called "calendar" or something similar). The ftp client will let you do this.
Different servers sometimes have different rules for where scripts must be located and how permissions should be set. For instance, if you have a directory in your account called "cgi-bin", you may have to put the "calendar" directory inside it.
Your web host/ISP can tell you if there are any special rules or requirements.
Let me know whether this helps,

I got it up, after finding out I needed to "upload" using ascii format. It works. SUPER.
I haven't been able to find where to change the password. Want to be able to set a password for me to "manage" and another for the "scoutmaster" to be able to post data. Hope you can help on this. THanks

Looks like progress, except I'm confused about one thing--what did you mean by "the exe file" ? There shouldn't have been any .exe file in the zip file--just the plans_5.0 folder. What's the full name of the exe file?
Adjusting permissions is works differently on different servers. You'll need to ask your ISP how to set permissions to run perl cgi scripts.

The "exe" file was inadvertantly put there from a download I had previously done. MY ERROR. I fixed it by deleting on my server, re-opening the zip download from your server and seeing the "exe" shouldn't have been there, then re-uploading. I've been busy. Trying to set those passwords. Wish I were smarter on some of this.
Can't seem to get the password changed OR put the Troop name at the top of the calendar area. Can you give me some direct? |

:?: :?: :?: I guess I'm full of questions. It is nice to have the calendar functable. However, in attempting to post events for a long period (e.g. - our troop meeting on the same day each week) it shows it accepts the "add to events", but only will show two months, not any longer. Is there something I need to do to allow longer posting of events that are reoccuring?
Have changed passwords now, but still cannot figure out how to change the "WORDING" at the top of the calendar page to say our troop name and give a means to "GO BACK" to the troop web area. Can you help. THANKS.
Understand it is the holidays and will be pleased whenever you can respond. |

If you post the URL to your site or email it to me, I'll take a look at the reocurring event problem.
To change the wording, change the plans.template file (make a backup copy of the old one first). You maight be able to do this in frontpage, since the .template file is actually an html file.
You can also edit the template file in any text editor. I'd caution against using notepad, since its word wrap feature sometimes inserts carraige returns that you don't want. Notetab (www.notetab.com) is a good free replacement for notepad.
